Clementi Secondary School held its 75th anniversary walkathon to raise funds for the purchase of air conditioners for a new annexe to be built next year.
More than 400 people, including all the teachers, about 150 students and their parents, took part in the walkathon.
We started from our school playground, walking up Fortress Hill Road, along Tin Hau Temple Road and Po Luen Path to enter Tai Tam Country Park. We went along Sir Cecil's Ride where Governor Clementi, after whom our school is named, once rode his horse. Then we passed Quarry Bay Tree Walk. While we were walking in the country park we chatted with our friends and sang songs.
There were 18 checkpoints along the path to ensure that participants did not get lost. Many parents and teachers used the opportunity to teach their children or students about the natural environment and history of Hong Kong.
The walkathon raised about $100,000 , and donations of about $20,000 were made by people who did not take part.
