When I read the article by Edward Stokes on noise pollution (South China Morning Post, March 15), I could sympathise with his predicament. Having recently moved to Mei Foo Sun Chuen, my family has come to live with the noise frustration from the flyover which cuts through the middle of the estate. It seemed fairly distant when we signed the lease. With all the advances and modern technology in the world, why do we have to live with this kind of noise pollution? At regular intervals, we hear motorbikes and cars with no mufflers being driven at high speeds on the flyover. There is an additional problem, because many container lorries use this route. Even in the coldest months of winter, we have to live with air-conditioners on just so we can get a decent night's sleep. I would like to ask the relevant government department to look into this matter and consider the installation of sound barriers so that Mei Foo Sun Chuen residents can enjoy a a better quality of life.
