1959: For rent: Tin Hau Temple Road, corner flats with verandahs, three bedrooms, living and dining rooms with servant's quarters. Rental $600 each.

1964: A group of 125 Russian refugees arrived from Sinkiang province, northwest China, on their way to resettlement in Australia. The group, all members of a Pentecostal sect, were part of about 1,000 Russians awaiting exit permits from the country.

1966: Students at the New Asia College were treated to their first pop concert. The entertainment included performances by amateur and professional 'beat' groups and a demonstration of the latest A-Go-Go dance style.

1981: Yum sing! Hong Kong beer drinkers put away 26 million gallons of the amber nectar in 1980 - a record 4.6 gallons per person. Figures showed local beer consumption had increased almost 400 per cent per capita in the last 20 years.
