We refer to the article headlined 'Treasure exhibition offer turned down' (South China Morning Post, April 17). A telephone inquiry was made to us by Stuart Bromley of a United States-based international museum in February. Mr Bromley expressed his interest in renting our exhibition venue at Pacific Place to hold a 10-week-long exhibition relating to Chinese history and culture. During the inquiry, we were provided with very limited information concerning the overall exhibition theme and details of the items that would be displayed at the venue. We did not 'turn down' Mr Bromley's request, and we will not do so prior to receiving and reviewing the formal written proposal submitted by the interested party. Approval of the application depends on various factors. Duration of the exhibition is by no means the only criterion. In determining the appropriateness of the events, we will also take into consideration the public interest, overall objectives, security issues, suitability of the venue and background of the exhibitor. With regard to the Mongolian exhibition, we have never received any inquiry or application from the organisation. It is our policy and practice to treat all applications fairly and equally. We have been organising and co-ordinating shows and exhibitions of various kinds, whether they are of cultural, educational, charitable or commercial value, and we will continue to do so in the best interests of our shoppers and tenants.
