SCMP Reporter

NORTH Sea Ferries has placed an order for a Kalmar ContChamp reach-stacker for its Hull operations.

  It also has taken an option for an identical unit for delivery early next year to Zeebrugge.

  The orders involve reach-stackers suitable for handling containers, swap-bodies and trailers.

  Containers up to 41 tonnes can be handled in the first row up to four high, and 20.5 tonnes in the second row.

  North Sea Ferries has been operating Kalmar equipment in the 16 to 42 tonne range for many years, with the first reach-stackers added to the fleet in 1991.

  The new equipment has been added to the handling facilities in a bid to make the container handling services even more effective.

  The new reach-stack units will put North Sea Ferries among the leaders in the field of providing quality cargo-handling facilities are their ports.
