Domoto Tsuyoshi of Kinki Kids visited the SAR earlier this month to promote the Japanese group's upcoming concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

But more than 500 fans who thronged the press conference were disappointed that Domoto Koichi, the other half of the double act, was forced to miss the  trip because of his tight schedule back home.

The pop group commands a popularity second only to that of Smaps among Japanese teenagers. So far, the 'Kids' have sold more than 23 million CDs in Asia.

The group made their debut in Hong Kong with two concerts at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in February last year.

They will give live performances outside Japan for the first time this year on May 8 and 9 in Hung Hom.

'I felt very happy and excited to be back again. Since our concerts here last year, we have made a lot of progress.  Even though Koichi is unable to come, he has asked me to give his best regards to everyone of you here,' Domoto said.

At present, the group is involved in two TV drama series and three shows at home, including the two big hits, Pop Jam  and Pikaichi . They are also hosting two radio programmes, Shining Kinki Kids  on Saturdays  and Kinki Kids Donnamonya  every Monday to Thursday. On April 25, they released Kinki Kids Single Selection , showcasing the group's music videos since 1999. It also contains footage which has not been shown outside Japan before.

Domoto said while he is taking time out at the moment, Koichi is still busy shooting his  latest drama series, The Rookie . Even though it will not be broadcast until later this year, the duo can be seen on  Love Love I Love You  and  Shunpei and Momoko , which are currently being shown on local channels every week.

Domoto performed one of his songs at the press conference, following a request by his fans.

Last December, Kinki Kids re leased D Album , which features chart-topping hits Burning Love , Back Fire , Misty  and Hey! .

The album remained in the top 10 of the official Oricon chart for five consecutive weeks.

After a three-day stay in Hong Kong, Domoto flew to Taiwan to promote the group's concerts on  May 11,  12, and 13 in Taipei.
