Mr Tsang's former chef went to a Labour Tribunal yesterday in his fight for $70,000 he claims is owed to him for unpaid overtime. Yu Yin-ping was hired through the Administration Office as the chief chef at the Financial Secretary's official residence in Shouson Hill Road, Wong Chuk Hang, on a 10-month contract that started in December 1999. He told the tribunal he worked from 6am to 7pm or 8pm every day and was on 24-hour standby. In addition to providing meals for Mr Tsang and his wife, Mr Yu also had to prepare servings of Chinese herbal medicine. When his contract ended last October he was annoyed to find he had not been paid for 1,120 hours of overtime. This amounted to about $70,000. Mr Yu says his overtime payments should be calculated on a day-by-day basis, which was disputed by the Administration Office, representing Mr Tsang in the hearing. The case continues today.
