Students of the Hong Kong Baptist University expressed their gratitude to outgoing president Daniel Tse Chi-wai at a farewell party yesterday.
Professor Tse, 67, received a standing ovation from students and teachers at the party, which was organised to honour his 30 years as head of the institute.
Students praised Professor Tse, a founding father of the university, for his vision and dedication. He is widely credited with guiding the institute through its remarkable rise from a post-secondary school to a fully recognised university.
Professor Tse was also one of the prime movers behind the revival of Chinese medicine in recent years. Under his leadership, Baptist University was the first in Hong Kong to offer a degree in Chinese medicine.
Baptist University president-designate Ng Ching-fai, who did not attend yesterday's party, also paid tribute to his predecessor.
'In my 15 years' working experience with Professor Tse, I know him as a devoted and enthusiastic educationalist. He is a man of strong belief and with far-sighted vision,' Professor Ng said.
