Changes to the Marriage Law:

On curbing baoernai (taking a 'second wife') and other behaviour that is not conducive to monogamy: 'Against bigamy, against a married person to cohabit with somebody.' In the past, the law only mentioned bigamy.

On compensation after divorce: the innocent party can seek financial compensation if the divorce is caused by bigamy, cohabitation, domestic violence, abuse, or being abandoned.

On the protection of an army officer's marriage: consent must still be obtained when divorcing an army officer. However, the new law adds the clause: 'Except in the situation when the army officer has made serious mistakes.'

On protecting the rights of children born out of wedlock: They will enjoy equal rights with those from married families. They should not be discriminated against or harmed. The parent not directly involved with raising and educating the child should provide life and education support, until the child becomes independent.
