Volera goes global with content networking
Volera, a recently formed subsidiary of networking software vendor Novell, unveiled in Hong Kong on Wednesday an aggressive strategy targeting the world's emerging content networking market.
Simon Khalaf, president of Volera, said the company's goal was to help transform today's Internet into 'a fast, scalable and reliable business tool' by providing Web-hosting companies, network service providers and enterprises with 'a comprehensive solution for managing the intelligent, efficient delivery of content'.
At the core of Volera's technology is the Excelerator 2.0 platform, which the company claims is the fastest Internet-caching technology in the industry based on third-party testing. As implemented for Internet content, caching - which means the facility to place or store information more or less temporarily - involves distributing content to multiple servers that are periodically refreshed.
'We have raised the bar by turning our caching engine into the Internet's next-generation platform for content networking,' Mr Khalaf said.
Investment bank Morgan Stanley/Dean Witter has estimated the market for content networking - which includes caching, content distribution services and switching infrastructure - will reach US$22 billion by 2004.
Volera will roll out its worldwide channel sales and marketing strategy across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe over the next two months, with additional launch events in Singapore, Melbourne, Frankfurt and Scandinavia scheduled in late summer.
