I refer to Judy Tong's letter complaining about our television programme Salute to Teachers (South China Morning Post, April 27).

Salute to Teachers is a variety programme which pays tribute to teachers for their dedication. This is the fourth year that we have produced this programme jointly with the Education Department.

Past programmes have been well received by both teachers and students. In each production, we use different forms of presentation to show our appreciation of teachers who have contributed so much during their careers.

Mini talk shows, hosted by stand-up comedians, are one of the popular formats used to address the theme in a light-hearted manner.

This year, the two hosts did address the issue of education reforms and the banding system. In their presentation, they concluded that joining the Band 1 and Band 5 students together would not affect the students' self-respect in any way. It was never our intention to make derogatory comments about Band 5 students.

We appreciate Ms Tong's concerns and will certainly take her views into account when designing next year's show.
