Heard the one about the musical mime show? No? Then you're in for a surprise with Legends And Fables, a show that aims to bridge the gap between silence and sound.
T Daniel and Laurie Willets (right) call what they do 'symphonic mime'. Having studied with such masters as Etienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau, they took their skills and added another dimension - orchestras. Losing the starchy white make-up, they interpret the music using mime movements.
The talented duo who, as well as performing on stage, have dabbled in action choreography in cinema and were movement specialists for Home Alone and Poltergeist III, are appearing with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta on May 4 and 5.
As the name suggests, Legends And Fables will feature orchestral works that lend themselves to storytelling. Dubussy's Girl With The Flaxen Hair and Mussorgsky's Night On Bare Mountain are among the chosen pieces, to be conducted by Frenchman Louis Tillet.
Legends And Fables. May 4, 8pm, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. May 5, Yuen Long Theatre. Tickets $60-$120 from Urbtix. Tel: 2734 9009.
