Warning: this show contains vulgarity that may 'offend as well as excite'. If that has not already grabbed your attention, perhaps its cast will. Staged by Actors' Family, Under Construction is an original play written by Chan Chi-wah starring a host of award-winning actors including Alice Lau Ngar-lai, Chan Wing-chuen, Victor Pang Chun-nam as well as Mandy Yiu, who is also the company's executive manager.
'We didn't go out of our way to look for big names for this production,' Yiu explains. 'Lau loves the script and at the same time is not tied down with other commitments, which is very rare. And I have worked with Pang before and want to work with him again.'
Directed by Pang and Yiu, Under Construction is a black comedy about a group of imported labourers working on construction sites. Yiu says: 'These workplaces are filled with mostly men from the grass roots. We want to look at how human nature is being twisted and distorted by the environment.'
