RealVision to offer GSM sled for Palm V telephony through Star Telecom
Local technology developer RealVision has finally launched its long-expected CarpeDiem V - a wireless global system for mobile-standard (GSM) sled which brings telephony to the Palm V series of handhelds.
The CarpeDiem V made its debut in the United States in September through a partnership with Palm. RealVision is also depending on its alliance with Palm Computing to reach other North American and European markets.
Star Telecom will market the CarpeDiem V in Hong Kong and Macau in CSL 1010, Orange and One2Free shops.
The dual-band GSM sled snaps on the back of the Palm V and Vx. The CarpeDiem V supports general packet radio services (GPRS). Making calls is just the start of the exciting things a GSM-enabled personal digital assistant (PDA) can offer. The main attraction is it lets you send and receive e-mail, access the Internet via wireless application protocol (WAP) browsers and provides wire-free access to the soon-to-be-offered 2.5 and 3G services.
GPRS services are expected to drive demand for WAP phones and smartphones - mobile phones with PDA capabilities.
To make calls, users 'dial' by tapping on the on-screen keypad. To take calls, users talk through a set of headphones that come with the CarpeDiem V.
