I AND a great many people in Hongkong do not see the reason why we should in any way support Beijing for the Olympic 2000 bid.
We must not forget the fact that the idea behind the Olympic games is not something that a communist regime like China supports; a regime which up to now has been infringing all the basic rights a human being should have; a regime which up to now is still prosecuting the right of her citizens to free worship; a regime which is still prosecuting its citizens because they do not agree with their political leaders in the way the country should be run; a regime which does not care whether the people of China starve, or how many people die as long as the leaders can stay in power; a regime which is not interested in any human rights issue but the interest of her own leaders.
As far as I am concerned we should support any other country in gaining the Olympic 2000 bid but China.
