Two prison officers yesterday denied accepting a total of $45,000 in bribes from a prisoner in exchange for items including marijuana, pornography, food and a TV set. Baljinder Singh (left), 24, denied eight charges involving an alleged $35,000 in bribes said to have been taken from Li On, an inmate of Tung Tau Correctional Institution, between March and September 1998. Singh is said to have delivered cigarettes, a mobile phone, cash, marijuana, porn, a mini-TV set and a video game machine to Li and another prisoner. Co-accused Cheuk Fan-ming (right), 47, pleaded not guilty to one count of accepting $10,000 from Li. He had recharged mobile phone batteries for Li and supplied cash and food to Li and the other inmate, Western Court heard. The case was adjourned to May 28. Both men were granted bail.
