Time travels fast. That is what Frank Pong will learn from the outcome of the Allen Perkins Spring Regatta which ended yesterday in Victoria Harbour. Time, Pong's new boat, made a winning debut when it won the line honours in all three races in the annual series.
Time's passage to a 1-1-1 finish justifies Pong's decision to buy the Malaysian-built Farr 40 yacht from David Lightfoot who skippered in the absence of Pong, who was away on business.
'I'm sure he will be happy with the result. He is already happy with the boat. It was a good team effort on the part of the guys,' said Lightfoot yesterday.
In Saturday's first race, Time took the line honours and also finished first on handicapped results. Despite grabbing line honours in both races yesterday, Time was pipped into second place on handicap. But the gloss remained as they grabbed first place in the Cruiser Class.
Sailing enthusiast Pong who keeps a low public profile, bought Time two months ago having endured the disappointment of seeing his favourite yacht, Jelik, limp out of the San Fernando Race with a broken mast earlier this year.
'Jelik is now being repaired and will be getting a new mast in about two months time. In the meantime, Time was bought and will be used for in-shore races,' said June Bollozos, one of Pong's crew of Chinese and Filipinos.
