Musical chairs

Why you can trust SCMP

After Miss Saigon you're going to need a drink to loosen the vocal chords for the post-musical discussion. Bearing in mind you've just dropped at least $345 on a ticket for the show, you probably won't mind parting with a few more well-earned dollars. In which case the most obvious stop is the already mentioned Felix bar (left) at The Peninsula. Decked out entirely by Philippe Starck, it is an experience in itself, with fantastic views of Hong Kong, both from the bar and, bizarrely, the toilets. It's open until 2am and cocktails cost between $60 and $120.

If that doesn't suit, cross the road to the Sheraton and take another lift up to the Sky Lounge. Again, the views are breathtaking, though the atmosphere is a little more low-key. Cocktails start at $78, but there's also a wide range of beers from $60. Wine comes at $140 a glass and starts at $650 a bottle.

For those who want to keep up the entertainment theme, Planet Hollywood on Salisbury Road might be worth a visit. You're greeted by a larger-than-life model of Jack Nicholson as The Joker on arrival and it continues the movie theme inside. It is loud, but beer is only $39 a bottle and there's a wide range of film-titled cocktails from $60.

Delaney's on Peking Road is a more relaxed affair. It's one of the best Irish bars in town and certainly serves up a respectable pint of Guinness. Beers start at $45, while wine comes in at $44 a glass and anywhere between $95 and $499 for a bottle.

Finally, if you want to go a little more 'in country', there are plenty of smaller bars decorating the back streets of Tsim Sha Tsui. Oxford Circus on Prat Avenue has something of the English pub to it, while the Kiss Bar on Hart Road offers a more intimate, peaceful environment. Both are reasonably priced and are open well into the early hours.
