Lau Yui-sui, political commentator:
'People, especially the young, should understand June 4. Unless it is reassessed [by Beijing], I will turn out year after year to refresh my memory. I was not afraid police would crack down on the protest because this is a democratic society.'
Wong Chi-kin, who marched with his daughter, seven, and son, three:
'I will never forget June 4, even though it was 12 years ago. I will teach my children what happened and educate them to express their voices peacefully. The Government has to listen to the people, and the kids are our future.'
Donny Fong, 38, a businessman watching with his wife and daughters, one and six:
'I am not going to march . . . I remember June 4 with my heart. I went to one demonstration after 1989 but didn't go again. I might take my kids to demonstrate when they are older. I would tell them what happened because China is their country too.'
