ONE of the world's largest explosives pumping trucks, costing US$1 million, arrived in Hongkong on Saturday, delivered by Maersk Line from Oakland in the United States to help build Chek Lap Kok Airport.
Dyno-Hutchison Explosives, supplier for the airport project, urgently required the truck to accelerate delivery of its goods.
The super-sized truck landed at Terminal 1 via M/S Maren V9305 on time on June 19 at 1 am, was collected at 10 am by Dyno-Hutchison managing director Jarle Nilsen and was on a lighter heading for Chek Lap Kok by the afternoon.
The truck's all-wheel drive allows it to access difficult terrain. It carries 28 tonnes of explosives per trip, which take about 70 minutes to discharge into the project's bore-holes.
The Chek Lap Kok airport is one of the world's biggest construction projects.
