What do you get when you cross an airport bar with a roadside restaurant? This place it seems. The only evidence that it has anything to do with sport is the one flat screen showing some form of exercise going on. Otherwise it's kitsch with a capital K. The menu represents the schizophrenic nature of the decor. There's a broad selection of starters that vary between Mediterranean fish dishes and Asian delights. After that there's a selection of pasta dishes or, for the more ambitious, a choice of steaks, pork chops and grilled fish. We opted for a seafood and avocado salad ($68) and a smoked salmon platter ($60) to start. The service was friendly, but the two bland dishes turned up seven minutes apart. The mains looked more promising. The king prawns with mango and lobster sauce ($110) and the T-bone steak with mille-feuille ($180) were both well presented, but again lacked flavour. We wrapped things up with fried ice-cream for desert ($30). Unfortunately the batter was far too doughy, while the mango ice-cream tasted even more artificial than the atmosphere. All in all an odd and disappointing experience. Dinner for two came to $572, including four beers, and I felt not only thoroughly unfit, but also out of pocket and confused. If you want to eat like this, I'm sure there are plenty of better options to choose from. Shop C, G/F, Lok Moon Mansion, 31 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai. Tel: 2529 0380.
