A robber who beat three victims with a metal pipe was jailed for eight years yesterday for what a judge described as a violent rampage.
Ho Kin-hung pleaded guilty in the Court of First Instance to three counts of robbery in a series of attacks that began outside Tsui Chung House in Kowloon on August 21.
Prosecutor Simon Kwan told Deputy Judge Michael McMahon that Ho's first victim, Choy Chau-tung, 53, was walking along the street when Ho beat him on the head repeatedly with a metal water pipe. Ho then stole Mr Choy's wallet and a packet of cigarettes before attacking security guard Tong Kwai-sim, 53, only metres away.
After hitting her on the head three times, Ho stole her bag.
Mr Kwan said Ho then jumped into a taxi where, soon into the journey, he hit driver Chiu Man-kwong, 45, twice with the pipe. He later stole $400.
All the victims required medical attention. Deputy Judge McMahon sentenced Ho to six years' jail for each of the three robberies, to be served concurrently, with an extra two years for the attack on the driver.
