Famous footballers in international contest help local young people improve their skills

More than 100 youngsters learned soccer skills from the stars at two football clinics recently.

The clinics, organised by the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) and Philips Lighting, were held prior to the seven-a- side '2001 HKFC Philips Lighting International Soccer Sevens'.

The tournament featured a total of 16 teams, showcasing a wealth of top-notch soccer talent from Europe, Asia, China and Hong Kong.

The stars attending the clinics included Dieter Burdenski, Richard Niederbacher, Didier Six, Ervin Koeman, Rene Van der Kherkof, Gordon Cowans, Tony Morley, Alan Evans, Mark Chamberlain, as well as Hong Kong players Yau Kin-wai, Tam Siu- wai, Lee Kin-wo, Cheng Siu- chung, Au Wai-lun and Shum Kwok-pui.

The clinics took place at the Hong Kong Football Club Stadium at Happy Valley last month.

The clinics drew more than 100 students from secondary schools and the Polytechnic University.
