A new online education service for primary school pupils has been launched.

VTech Computer Systems and Longman Hong Kong Education launched the site (www. longman.vtech.net). It aims to provide local students with a more interesting and interactive means of learning and to support the curriculum.

The site is also a response to the Government's appeal for further application of information technology to daily lessons.

The online service caters to Primary One and Six students and covers the English and mathematics syllabuses.

A Chinese subject section for primary students is scheduled to be launched this September.

President of Longman Goh Tin-chuk said: 'The educational materials have been developed in a way that will enable students to effectively drill and review what they have learned in class any time and anywhere through the Internet.

'By making learning and teaching more interesting and effective, we believe the new online service will bring great benefits to students, teachers and parents alike.'

Materials on the site are based on Longman's textbooks New Welcome to English and New Primary Mathematics, which are currently used in local schools.

Longman will continuously update and renew the materials on the Web site through VTech's e-learning platform to closely follow any changes in the current syllabus.

Subscribers who register now will be able to enjoy the online education service free until August.
