This month the local performing arts scene has so much to offer you really won't want to miss out. One of the hottest shows is Spring-time's crowd pleaser Laughing Kaleidoscope. The cast includes some of the biggest names in local theatre today: Raymond To, Law Koon-lan, Jim Chim Shui-man, Joe Junior, Sheila Chan Suk-lan, Hui Koon-ying and Pichead Amornsomboon (aka Lam Chak-kwan). It's a Cantonese comedy with retro and social themes. June 19-July 8. Tue-Fri, 7.45pm; Sat and Sun, 2.45pm and 7.45pm. Jockey Club Auditorium, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. $280 and $180. If you are looking for something on the heavy side, there is Square Peg Theatre's The Road To Heaven (above), a one-man show by Peter Jordan about a Nazi soldier struggling with his past while searching for forgiveness in his present. The thought-provoking piece asks, among others, the question: are there limits to forgiveness? Performance in English followed by a discussion. June 12 to 16, 8pm. Fringe Club. $90 and $80. Ticketek.
Known for their original fusion of classical and contemporary music, The Box - founded by Kung Chi-shing and Peter Suart - will be collaborating with Chan Wai-fat and Julia Mok in their forthcoming 'theatrical concert' entitled Side 12 Nature. Considering both Kung and Suart are out of town most of the time these days, this is a rare chance to catch them in action. June 19-20, 8pm. Ko Shan Theatre. $120 and $90. Urbtix: 2734 9009.
Back by popular demand, The Youth Arts Festival will be re-staging Sshhh . . . a bilingual theatre production that is made up of four fairy tales: Gingerbread Boy, The Golden Goose, The Real Princess and The Frog Prince. June 14-15, 4pm and 7pm; June 16, 11am and 7pm. McAulay Studio, Arts Centre. $50. Ticketek.
Also watch this space for information on this year's International Arts Carnival, which will run from July 13 to August 26. Booking brochures and tickets for the most-anticipated children's arts festival this summer are now available from all Urbtix outlets.
