'I will be very busy next year with the World Cup and as you know I am doing commentary for the Italian Serie A as well.

'I just won't have enough time to fulfil my duties as coach of Sun Hei,' said the former Hong Kong international best remembered for scoring Hong Kong's winning goal against China in a 2-1 World Cup shocker in 1985.

'It's been nice coaching Sun Hei and I have some fond memories. But unfortunately all good things must come to an end and I have decided to quit Sun Hei. I don't know whether I will be coming back. Only time will tell.'

Cheung has had a relatively successful two-season stint with Sun Hei who confirmed their status as one of Hong Kong's strongest teams by finishing in the top four in the local league for a second successive season.

Sun Hei also came mightily close to winning their first silverware when they led Happy Valley 1-0 in the dying minutes of regulation in the final of the League Cup only to lose 2-1 in extra-time.
