Peter Ho's Glorious Winner lived up his name in yesterday's only barrier trial at Sha Tin, but his 12-length success was nothing to get excited about at a time when trackwork is winding down for the season. Sha Tin mornings have been even quieter this week due to the heavy rain, and yesterday's trial over 1,200 metres was run on a very sloppy dirt track. The lightly-raced Glorious Winner led from barrier to post under Way Leung, who allowed the son of Straussbrook to stride along at his leisure, and he obviously appeared to handle the woeful conditions better than most. But, given Glorious Winner's lowly rating of 21 it is difficult to get enthusiastic about the heat, particularly in light of the conditions. One of the interesting runners was Ricky Yiu Poon-fie's Specific Sorceror, who won two of his four starts in Britain. The chestnut gelding showed some early speed but was never asked for much of an effort from Patrick Tse and, while it was difficult to gauge his potential in the conditions, he is worth keeping an eye on next time he is entered for a trial. Wong Tang-ping's International Sale griffin Prizes Treasure was never asked for much of an effort from apprentice Vincent Sit and was mid-division throughout. He is a well-bred son of Snippets and, while there was not much to go on from this trial, his overall work has been quite impressive and he could be one to follow for next season. Wong also ran Highlight and Resourceful Prince, with the former finishing a well-beaten second. Resourceful Prince is a son of Marju who only had one start in Ireland before coming to Hong Kong. He is quite a striking individual and should improve considerably on this trial. While there is the strong possibility that he will not be raced this season, he could be another to keep an eye on for next season. Chris Cheung Ting-pong's unraced griffin Great Expectation still looks as though he has plenty to learn. SHA TIN TRIAL RESULT 1,200m (dirt): 1, GLORIOUS WINNER (M. W. Leung); 2, Highlight (T.
