A frightened toddler cradled in her grandfather's arms was plucked from the roof of her family home in Sheung Shui yesterday by a rescuer on his first flood-evacuation mission.
The little girl sobbed in fear as winds whipped by the helicopter's rotor lashed her family - but rescuer Patrick Fok Wai-fung said she was laughing about her adventure by the time they landed.
The girl, aged about two, was among more than 100 people who had to be rescued from the floodwaters.
Mr Fok, 30, said he and the helicopter pilot saw the Leung family while flying over Shek Wu San Tsuen, Sheung Shui, yesterday morning.
'We saw three adults with the baby girl. They were standing on the roof because there was water all around. It was a two-storey building and the water was up to the first floor,' he said.
Mr Fok said he picked up the parents first, then winched up the toddler. He then went back for her grandfather.
