Some children regard their fathers as troublemakers, enemies or strangers, a survey revealed yesterday.
The study, conducted in May on more than 800 youngsters in the New Territories, found that only 17 per cent of respondents' fathers discussed emotional problems with them.
A total of 51.2 per cent of respondents said their fathers spent too much time sleeping and 41 per cent said they watched too much television.
The study, carried out by the ELCHK Sheung Tak Integration Youth Service, found that drinking, smoking, bad tempers and bad language used by fathers topped children's lists of dislikes.
The survey was carried out to assess children's attitudes towards their fathers to mark Father's Day tomorrow.
A total of 806 Primary Four to Secondary Three children under the age of 14 took part in the study. They came from Tseung Kwan O, Tai Po, Tuen Mun, Tin Shui Wai and North District.
