Ingenious idea wins grand prize in science project competition
A 'smart' window devised by five students from the Kwai Chung Kiangsu-Chekiang College won first prize in the 3rd Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition.
Their invention uses electronic sensors to know when the weather changes and it's time to shut the window.
The competition was organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Department and the HKSAR Innovation and Technology Commission, and aims to increase interest in scientific technology and technological innovation.
The official award presentation ceremony will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 7th July.
The top three teams will represent Hong Kong at the International Youth Science Forum in London from July 25 to August 8.
The five students, Ngan Chiu- nang, Hang Yun-kuen, Mak Ho- kai, Kan Ching-kit, all seventh formers, and fifth former Ma Man-wa spent six months working on the smart window and, after countless tests and failures, finally came up with a product that according to one of the judges 'has a high market potential'.
