MICHAEL Jackson will do a show in Rio de Janeiro in October, and the pop mega-star will give away thousands of tickets to poor children.
His agent, Marcel Avram, said Jackson signed a contract on Friday to perform at Rio's Maracana Stadium, the world's largest soccer facility.
It was there that Frank Sinatra, then Paul McCartney, set records for the largest crowd at a performance of a single artist. More than 187,000 people saw McCartney perform at Rio's showcase sports complex.
Tickets will cost US$8 to US$30 (about HK$62 to HK$232), but Avram said: ''Jackson will want to give away at least a few thousand tickets to poor and needy children.'' There has been no word on whether or not Jackson plans to give away tickets for his Hongkong appearances, scheduled for August 15-16.
