Updated at 5.18pm: Truck drivers on Tuesday morning protested from the New Territories to Central against mid-stream operators' imposition of a $40 per-cargo handling fee.
More than twenty trucks gathered at San Tin in Lok Ma Chau at 7am. Banners were drapped over the trucks accusing the cargo-handling operators of violating previous agreements to delay the imposition of the fee.
Traffic police led the line of container trucks through its route along Castle Peak Road, Tolo Highway, Tsuen Wan, Hung Hum, finally crossing the Eastern Harbour Tunnel during peak hours.
One and a half hours after it began, the convoy reached the Tamar site in Admiralty, where 40 drivers went on to Central Government Offices (CGO) to continue their protest.
The procession did not cause major traffic disruption, police said.
At CGO, drivers urged authorities to step in and resolve the crisis.
