Students to hone English skills, learn about US culture
It will be an exciting and different summer for a group of students from four Sam Yuk secondary schools.
Forty-six students have left for the United States, where they will take English lessons and visit scenic spots.
The Form One to Six students are from Hong Kong Sam Yuk Secondary School, Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School, Tai Po Sam Yuk Secondary School and Sam Yuk Middle School (Clearwater Bay).
Hong Kong Sam Yuk Secondary School principal Lawrence Yu Cheong-ning, who initiated the programme, had arranged for 14 outstanding students to go on the trip for free.
'I think it is a great prize for outstanding students with good conduct and academic performance. Many of them are visiting the US for the first time,' Mr Yu said.
During the 16-day trip, the students will stay at La Sierra University in Riverside, South California, where they will attend English lessons conducted by local teachers.
Mr Yu said the trip would be a good opportunity for the students to speak English freely.
