Monkey apes tourists with swing through Tsim Sha Tsui
A cheeky primate made monkeys of police and animal welfare officers yesterday when it led them on a 10-hour chase around Tsim Sha Tsui.
It also caused a minor collision between two goods vehicles in Canton Road as drivers watched its antics.
The chase began when the grey macaque - common in country parks - was seen on the Star Ferry pier roof in Tsim Sha Tsui about 8.40am.
It then headed to the Ocean Terminal, climbing six storeys to a giant billboard on the terminal's roof.
Police and animal welfare officers were joined by an Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department veterinarian, who tried to lure the monkey down with bananas. But it grabbed the fruit and skipped away.
After two hours jumping from one part of the structure to another, the monkey made its way towards Star House. It then landed on the pavement outside Planet Hollywood and crossed Canton Road.
