A DISTRICT judge yesterday praised the courage of an auxiliary policeman while acquitting him of wounding a drug addict with intent.
Judge Hartmann ruled that Kwok Ping-man, 34, had no case to answer at the end of the Crown's case.
Mr Kwok, a workman with the Urban Services Department, denied wounding Chan Tak-leung, 28, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm at Chuk Yuen South Estate in Tsz Wan Shan, on September 6, 1991.
The court heard Chan was sentenced to two years' jail on July 9, last year, after he was found guilty of wounding Mr Kwok with intent.
David Tolliday-Wright, Mr Kwok's counsel, submitted his client was the victim who was suddenly attacked by Chan.
Judge Hartmann said there was no evidence Mr Kwok had chopped Chan out of revenge.
