Twenty-one Hong Kong holidaymakers were hurt in a traffic accident in the Philippines after their Cathay flight was diverted to Cebu because of the airport chaos.

They were all members of a tour group that had been on holiday in South Korea and was supposed to have flown back to Hong Kong from Seoul on Friday and landed at 11pm.

But because of the effects of Typhoon Utor their flight was forced to divert to the Philippines, where they made an overnight stay in Cebu.

The tour bus collided with a truck while they were being transferred from their hotel to the island's airport for the trip home at about 1.20pm yesterday.

According to one of the tour members, Lam Yuk-ming, about 40 tourists had made the trip to South Korea.

'Apparently the truck driver jumped the red light at a junction. Our driver could not brake in time and it rammed into the truck,' said Ms Lam. 'We saw it coming.'

Ms Lam was travelling with her mother and nine-year-old daughter, who was slightly injured.
