Comedian Eric Tsang Chi-wai, who left Hong Kong after a suspected triad attack on him a week ago, has returned to host tonight's Miss Hong Kong Pageant.

A TVB spokeswoman said Tsang, who is also deputy chairman of the entertainment company Star East, returned yesterday but the station was not told where he had been.

He is expected to hold a press conference today to explain the mystery behind his disappearance.

Tsang, 48, was reportedly ambushed and attacked by three men wielding torches when he left a club in Boundary Street, Kowloon Tong, in the early hours of July 7.

He was admitted to St Teresa's Hospital with facial injuries and later reported the attack to the police.

The attackers now have a $6.5 million bounty on their heads after separate rewards - $5.5 million from an anonymous businessman and $1 million by Star East - were put up.
