An Australian who is trying to become the first man to walk unassisted across Australia has had to drink rainwater left behind in camel footprints.
Jon Muir is one-third of the way through his 2,500km journey, but is painfully thin after setting himself the challenge of supplementing his meagre rations by living off the land.
In order to qualify as an unassisted trek, he must avoid roads, not take water from artificially dug bore holes and not use baggage animals such as camels or horses.
Accompanied on the five-month trek by his faithful Jack Russell terrier, Seraphine Snupesen, he has struggled through heavy rain and thick mud, towing a specially designed 200kg cart known as an 'arid zone cruiser', which is packed with supplies including rice, muesli and flour.
Muir, 40, an experienced adventurer, started his journey in May in the town of Port Augusta, South Australia.
His ultimate destination is Burketown, Queensland, on Australia's north coast.
