I REFER to Ms Sheila Grange's letter (South China Morning Post, June 28) in which she describes a man drowning ''no more than two feet from the shore'' and asks ''what kind of Hongkong madness is it that no one care enough and watches a man who may be dying before their very eyes?'' Things are no different in Hongkong than anywhere else on this planet when it comes to human behaviour.

Some were probably frozen with shock, some frightened of water and some probably thought him beyond help, while the rest, like Ms Grange, failed to act for reasons we shall never know.
As often happens, however, there was one individual who waded in and did what had to be done. We're fortunate they exist at all.
