A new selection of easy-to-use palm-sized Chinese electronic books will be launched in Hong Kong in November.

Using an eBook and a mini eCard, readers will be able to choose from more than 110 titles, ranging from kung fu, love and educational novels to scripts written in the 1980s.

The devices are jointly offered by Universal Technology and CultureCom Holdings. A package which includes an eBook with four megabytes of flash Ram built in - enough for about three million words - will cost about HK$600.

'I know similar products have been launched in other countries, but I think the eBook is more user-friendly and convenient to use,' said Universal chief executive Vita Chan Hing-yuen.

'I understand products like PDAs [personal digital assistants] have similar or even more advanced technology. But do we really need so much and such complicated technology? We are actually developing something that is easy enough to use.'

Chu Boo-foo, vice-president of CultureCom, said many Chinese readers were afraid of computers or technology.
