Salsa, a mixture of Afro-Cuban, Afro-Puerto Rican and Latin Caribbean music, comes from Cuba and was first danced by slaves. Wilma Donnelly has been a salsa dancer for more than five years. She has travelled the world to attend salsa congresses and likes to buy her performance outfits in the United States because of the quality and variety. She has five wardrobes full of them and most of her salsa dresses are in sparkling colours. Salsa shoes are different from most other high heels because the soles are made of leather, enabling the dancer to move more easily. 'I never wear them on other occasions,' she says. 'I will usually take them with me and change into them when I need to dance.'
