SmarTone Telecommunications has delayed the launch of mobile services in Macau after failing to reach an interconnection arrangement with the dominant carrier Macau Telecom. SmarTone said Macau Telecom needed more time to study the agreement. SmarTone had originally planned to unveil its user-tariff plan yesterday. 'We have everything ready for operation,' said Alex Ip, chief executive officer of SmarTone (Macau). SmarTone and Hutchison Telecom were the first new operators to enter the Macau mobile market. Hutchison Telecom has also failed to reach an interconnection agreement in Macau. This would have allowed connection between fixed-line users and mobile operators. Without an agreement users can work only within the fixed network. Mr Ip said he hoped the problem would be solved within two weeks. SmarTone promised the Macau Government that it would invest at least HK$100 million in Macau in the next three years.
