A constable involved in a nine-hour stand-off with police on Thursday is under investigation for an alleged trip to Macau from which he was reportedly accompanied home by debt-collectors.
Assistant Kwun Tong district commander Superintendent Tsang Hing-ting said police received an anonymous call on Thursday morning saying Constable Cheng Chi-shing, 33, was escorted back to his Sau Mau Ping home from Macau by two men.
The suspected debt-collectors were arrested that day at a flat in Tsui Ping Estate, Kwun Tong, and were yesterday questioned at Kwun Tong police station.
Superintendent Tsang said officers were investigating whether Constable Cheng, a traffic policeman, made the trip and whether he reported it to a superior officer. Under the force's guidelines, officers have to tell their superiors if they visit Macau or the mainland.
Police were also investigating whether he was in breach of rules when he disappeared from duty during the stand-off in Sai Kung Country Park.
Constable Cheng was admitted to hospital after giving himself up at about 9.30pm. Superintendent Tsang said he had not been suspended and was now on sick leave.
