Centre all set for the big day

Portable computers from individual schools will be deployed at a central allocation centre in Tai Po to help students register for Secondary Six.

Staff from 18 secondary schools will bring their computers to Carmel Holy Word Secondary School and update vacancies on the centre's homepage.

This page will refresh itself every minute, while the Education Department's page is only updated half-hourly.

Apart from students accepted by their own schools tomorrow, 500 more Tai Po candidates will be admitted through the central allocation.

While interviewers are changing the statistics, results will be posted on the Web page and projected in the school hall and covered playground.

Kwok Wing-keung, principal of Carmel Holy Word Secondary School, said: 'Students will be notified of the school's decision in half an hour. They can immediately apply for a different school.'

He said students of other districts were able to view the number of places on their centre's page, adding interviews would start after 2pm.

Social workers from support groups will offer counselling services in the centre.
