All you ever wanted to know about beef is graphically presented on the place mats at this economical steak house. That probably gives enough of an idea of the decor, but if meat is what you want, this is the place to get it. It was packed with young locals on a Friday night and most of them were holding up their napkins to protect their faces from the smoke from their sizzling hot plates. The waiting staff were helpful as we tried to work out the different combinations available. We calculated that each meal comes with the option of wine for an extra $16, beer for $9 or soup plus coffee or tea for $20. Argentinian chilled beef and American prime frozen beef are the main attractions, and the restaurant is also holding a promotion on veal. But also available are pork dishes, a variety of pastas and curry. There are a number of set dinners to choose from including one for two ($188) with soup, escargots, beef, a choice of pasta or another meat main dish, and coffee or tea. We decided to go a la carte but began with burgundy escargots ($38). Hot and flavourful, they were served on a bed of mashed potatoes. The 12oz (340 gram) US prime rib-eye steak ($126) came with a choice of dipping sauces: onion, red wine, barbecue and black pepper. The waitress, seeing our indecisiveness, brought all four. I liked the onion while my dinner companion preferred the black pepper sauce, but the meat was tender and juicy enough to stand alone. They had just sold the last veal sirloin so we settled for the tenderloin ($108). The meat melted in the mouth and was well complemented by crispy potato wedges. Unfortunately the restaurant didn't have any desserts on the menu. Dinner for two, including two glasses of wine, and service charge came to $334.
