The Department of Justice has ordered a fresh investigation into a blacklisted international removals firm after deciding a nine-month police inquiry was not good enough.
However, the force did not appear to be aware that its file on East Asia Movers had been returned.
The company's sharp practice - which was uncovered last year by the Sunday Morning Post - has left a string of victims with thousands of dollars of lost and damaged and undelivered belongings.
But despite dozens of complaints since then, the authorities have done nothing to stop the Fanling-based company.
East Asia Movers' latest victim, Mercy de Guzman, said the legal system was effectively protecting the company, which rubs salt into its victims wounds by refusing refunds or compensation.
Ms de Guzman - who won a Small Claims Tribunal case against the company - discovered the court was powerless to enforce its own awards after East Asia Movers refused to pay up.
