FANS of the pop band Beyond wept at Kai Tak airport last night as the body of lead vocalist Wong Ka-kui was brought back from Tokyo. More than 100 fans, mostly teenage girls, waited in the arrival hall for hours for the arrival of the body. Wong, 31, died of cerebral haemorrhage on Wednesday, six days after he fell from a stage set during a television programme rehearsal. His friends, guitarists Firmin So and Pal Sinn, and several Fuji Television staff members accompanied Wong's relatives back to Hongkong. They left the airport at about 9.40 pm, but were too distraught to speak to reporters and the fans. Wong's body was taken to the Hongkong Funeral Home in North Point, where the funeral will be held on Monday. The fans, mainly between 12 and 15 and in plain dark dresses, remained outside the airport building, repeating the words of some of Beyond's songs. Commercial Radio will hold a memorial concert for Wong tomorrow night at the Ko Shan Theatre in Hunghom. Tickets are free.
