Theodore Rex Pearl, 9.30pm This US$35 million film's claim to fame is that it's the most expensive direct-to-video ever. This is one bad film. In fact, its reluctant star, Whoopi Goldberg, tried to get out of her contract even before filming started. Set in the year 2013, the atmosphere has been so damaged that most animals and vegetation can no longer exist. Advances in genetic science, however, have enabled dinosaurs to once again walk the planet, and to talk as well. When a billionaire DNA researcher, Elizar Kane (Armin Mueller-Stahl, right), plans to destroy the world and launch his version of Noah's Ark, detective Katie Coltrane (Goldberg) must team up with a cookie-loving dinosaur, Teddy Rex (voice of George Newburn), to stop him. The story goes from bad to worse. During a visit to the Natural History Museum, Rex says, 'If dinosaurs weren't extinct, we'd be running the world.' At a party, the dinosaur asks a waiter, 'So what do we have, Frenchy? Meat, meat, meat and meat. You know I'm a recovering carnivore.' Theodore Rex is written and directed by Jonathan Betuel. (1996) National Geographic: Renegade Lions; America's Lost Mustangs World, 10pm Renegade Lions takes place in the Etosha National Park in Namibia. Prides of lions are using their combined strength to defend their territory and their females. National Geographic follows three lions in their quest to conquer and claim a territory of their own. In America's Lost Mustangs, cowboy historian Carlos LoPopolo travels to the remote Isleta Indian reservation in New Mexico, where he discovers a herd of mustangs that may be direct descendants of America's Spanish horses. With the help of famed horse whisperer Pat Parelli, LoPopolo tries to determine their origin. Night Of The Living Dead AXN, 10pm Unfortunately, this is not the 1968 cult horror film by George Romero, but a gory remake by Tom Savini. Made for a mere US$4.2 million, Savini's directorial debut went on to gross US$5.8 million in the United States alone, thanks largely to the updated 'living dead' effects. Apparently, the effects were inspired by visits to the morgue to watch autopsies and were enough for Finland to ban the film. There are some new twists, but all the favourites, including Ben (Tony Todd), Cooper (Tom Towles) and Barbara (Patricia Tallman), are back in this tale about the dead returning to life and seeking the flesh of the living. (1990) Buffy The Vampire Slayer Star World, 8pm In this two-part episode, Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is tracking down the creature that attacked Riley Finn (Marc Blucas). Faith (Eliza Dushku) awakens from her coma and seeks revenge on the slayer. She also receives a mysterious gift from Mayor Richard Wilkins (Harry Groener). Also starring Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, James Marsters and Anthony Stewart Head.
