The chairman of the Hong Kong Football Association yesterday faxed a warning letter through his lawyers to Police Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui demanding an apology over his arrest in connection with an assault.
Martin Hong Po-kui, who claims his reputation has been damaged by the arrest, has threatened to take legal action unless his demands are met.
Mr Hong, 52, was arrested last Saturday along with Canto-pop star Joey Yung Cho-yee for their suspected involvement in the assault on RTHK disc jockey Leung Sze-ho on February 12.
'I'm clean but my reputation has been tarnished to a certain extent,' Mr Hong said yesterday. 'I urge the police to clear my case as soon as possible because I also hold a number of other public positions.'
Leung, 34, was beaten up by three men. He had lampooned Yung on the entertainment show Enjoy Yourself Tonight and made a remark about her tycoon boss, Albert Yeung Sau-shing, who is on bail after his arrest on Wednesday in connection with the same attack.
Mr Yeung, 57, chairman of the Emperor Group, was arrested at Chek Lap Kok airport as he stepped off a flight from London. He was held on suspicion of conspiring to assault Leung. A police source yesterday confirmed that Mr Yeung's arrest was also connected with a July 7 attack on comedian Eric Tsang Chi-wai, 48, who was ambushed and hit on the head at a club in Kowloon Tong.
Nine men, aged 22 to 51 and some with triad backgrounds, were arrested on Friday in connection with that attack. All have been released on $2,000 bail.
