Calling all masochists, the thinking man's dominatrix has finally arrived in Hong Kong with Dodo Cheng Yu-ling (above) reincarnating British host Anne Robinson's ego-bruising hosting role in the local version of The Weakest Link.

In a bid to steal some of the thunder from its ratings rival, ATV Home's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? (8.10pm), quiz show The Weakest Link not only boasts $3 million in prize money but also a host who promises to be less vitriolic than Robinson in dishing out verbal abuse to the contestants. Cheng plans to follow Robinson's example by choosing a designer wardrobe and wants the contestants to dress up as well in order to present a more serious approach to the show. Structured like Survivor, the programme is basically a game of elimination with the last person standing taking home all the winnings.

The contestants play as a team by answering a series of questions in each round. With every question they get right, more money is added to the pot. Every time they get an answer wrong, the pot goes down to zero. After each round, the contestants vote to eliminate the person they consider to be the weakest in the team, hence the name of the show. Those who are voted out leave with nothing. That includes the loser of the final round who, despite helping to win the money his or her team accumulated, has nothing to show for the work. As only one contestant can walk away with all the money, the show is really about the 'strongest link' but that is entirely another matter.
